History Of Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria

Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria, Jaildar of Sialkot’s ‘Charaniya’ village. He belonged to the Kshatriya caste which is also called Rajput in today’s times. He protected all the cows and Brahmins of Punjab during the reign of Aurangzeb.

Historians tell that when Aurangzeb was torturing all the cows and Brahmins of Punjab, a Brahmin came crying to Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria and said, Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria, the lives of us poor Brahmins and all the cows are in your hands, you are God for us. Only you can save us from this tyrant Aurangzeb. Then Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria, seeing the situation at that time, started a war with the Mughal soldiers.

Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria fought with Mughal soldiers for several days. In the war, a soldier of the Mughal army treacherously beheaded Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria. Even after the head was cut off, Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria’s torso continued fighting for several kilometers. Seeing Sardar Data Sher Singh Salaria’s torso fighting, the Mughal soldiers got scared and fled from the battlefield.

The name of that city is ‘Suhagpur’ where the fighting torso of Sardar Sher Singh Salaria fell. There is a temple in his name today and all the descendants of Salaria clan worship him as their Kul Devta even today.

Nowadays many Shudra castes like Saini also claim Salaria gotra. Those Shudra castes have no relation with Salaria gotra.
